Playing beauty salon.....

Yesterday after Caleb and Ashlee went to school, Sydney wanted to style my hair. She told me that her name was Tami the haircut girl. It was pretty funny because our friend Tami cuts the girls hair for them and Sydney loves her. Needless to say I had a pretty awesome headache after she was finished, not to mention the loss of hair that I experienced. After beauty salon we played Dora Candyland, and I was unaware that a 3 year old knows how to cheat. Everytime Sydney got a double color she would move 4 spaces. In the end she won and did a little victory dance to rub it in that she learned from her big brother.

Photos of Rock climbing and Zipline...

Here are the photos of the kids on the climbing wall and the zip line. you can't tell by Ashlee or Syd's faces but they really did love the Zip line. Sydney wouldn't go until she had something to hold on to, so that explains the bar she is gripping for dear life. Seriously if you ever want an awesome place to visit, Mammoth is great. We have seen a bear every time we've been up there. Once was a little too close for comfort. Last year we camped instead of staying at the Inn and a bear decided to visit us at our trailer. It was under the awning right by the door and Carl thought the awning was going to blow down so he opened the door at hit the bear in the back. Naturally he started yelling and I was mad because he woke up the kids, but I didn't know about the bear. The bear started to run off and Carl threw a log at his backside. Probably not a great idea because the bear wasn't too happy, but we survived and I made all the kids come sleep with us. Carl's idea for handling a bear encounter when hiking is to sacrifice his left arm and poke it's eyes with his right hand. I'd rather not know about his adventures when he is backpacking. This year the bear was in our parking garage, Carl chased him down to to try and get a picture.

Ready to climb.

She was amazing.

He made it to the top.

"I think I'm having fun?"

Big girl.

Catching up.............

So since I am a new blogger and because mom and dad claim I never send any pictures to them ( I don't) I decided to post a few from our fun summer break this year. We go to Utah every other year for the Hansen family reunion over the 4th of July. Since there was no reunion this year we decided to start our own family tradition and go to Mammoth Lakes, California. If you haven't ever been I highly recommend it. We stayed at Mammoth Mountain Inn, right at the base of the ski resort. During the summer it is a mountain bikers dream. They take you and your bike up on the Gondola, then you get to bike down, totally my kind of biking since I don't have to work too hard going up hills. The town is small and the 4th of July parade was a big hit. The kids loved it and our friends the Goodmans come up to spend the day with us. They got tons of candy and had fun chasing the fire trucks. Carl took Caleb on his first "real" mountain bike ride, we went fishing (no luck), and while Carl was biking the mountain the kids were able to rock climb on a wall right outside of our hotel. Sydney was a natural and she gathered quite a crowd because they couldn't believe a 3 year old could climb so well.
On our last day there the kids all tried the zipline. Caleb went off the highest point, and the girls went off a little bit lower. They all loved it and did great and can't wait to go back.

No really Point Reyes Continued.......

I am falling apart without my friend Misty here. I don't know how that last title posted without me even knowing about it. AHHHHH!

Moving on, we got to watch the sunset Monday night, I was so excited to see a sunset drop below the waterline, but there was this small rock point with the lighthouse on it that the sun went behind first, but still a great sunset.

Watching the Sunset. It got COLD fast.

This is the photo op Carl risked his life for.

Backpacking Point Reyes.......

Nanny came out to see the Primary Program last Sunday and decided to stay for a few days, so we took advantage of her excellent babysitting skills and went on a little trip together. We drove about 2 1/2 hours northwest to Point Reyes, California. It is on the coast and very beautiful. We backpacked into a camp called "Coast Camp". Our site had a view of the ocean, and we could hear waves crashing all night long. (way better than those sound machines).
We hiked along the beach and found cool rocks and other fun things in the sand. We found some big tide pools that were full of sea life. Note the giant star fish in the photo. We told the kids that Patrick Star really is pink. We also found some amazing rock arches that ended our walk on the beach, unfortunately Carl didn't think so and he climbed up the rock to get on top for a photo op. However, when it came time to get back down it was a little tricky. I was trying to gage how long it would take me to go find help for him when he either fell or decided he was stuck. Well anyone that knows Carl also knows that he isn't likely to give up that easy so he climbed part of the way down and then jumped. Needless to say he survived. On the hike back to camp we ran into a buck and his doe. It was my first time seeing a boy deer with horns up close and I was pretty sure that he was going to attack. He didn't and we both survived another life threatening experience. Last but not least, our bag of Czech cookies was raided by 2 pretty aggressive raccoons that night so I slept with Carls Bear attack pepper spray right next to me. Overall a great trip to get away for a couple of days.

Soccer "GOAL"........

Caleb is playing soccer right now and to be honest I was kind of dreading the commitment to practices and games every Saturday. But as it turns out, he is pretty awesome. He is the Team Captain and a great leader for the team. Today we had to get up EARLY to be at his 8:00 a.m. game, it was a tough sell to Ashlee and Syd but dad saved the day by giving them both a dollar to spend at the Snack Bar. So a ring pop and fun dip later the girls were good cheerleaders on the sideline. (Nothing like pure sugar first thing in the morning). Caleb's team won their first game 8-1, and Caleb scored one of those goals. The next game ended in a 1-1 tie, but he played awesome.

Here is that sugar breakfast I mentioned.

It was a blue ring pop. Can you tell?

I am a brand new Blogger............

So my friend Sister Ballard from the ward has been telling me for awhile to get on board with this bogging thing, so she actually had to come to my house and walk me through it. So here it is..........I am blogging Wahooo!
On Labor Day weekend, grandpa Hansen flew the whole family up to Spokane Wa. for our cousin Chad's baptism. It was loads of fun, if you don't count the call to 911 on the first morning we were there. Sydney woke up and couldn't breath and her asthma treatment wasn't helping, but the nice firemen and oxygen tank were pretty helpful. So we ended up in the ER with a severe case of croup. (Sorry Auntie Lara for bringing our California germs in) We took a family photo at the church after the baptism because Uncle Dave is moving to Thailand and we won't all be together for awhile.
Then off to their local amusement park for "Pigout in the Park". The kids had a blast seeing their cousins and spending time with Nanny and Grandpa. Carl especially loved the big red wagon slide. Thanks Grandpa for the nice trip.
